With Calgary being such a large city it is sometimes difficult to meet close friends. Living in Calgary you’ll quickly find out that most people aren’t actually born and raised here in cowtown. This city is driven by the oil and gas market here and the amount of opportunities and jobs available produces a lot of people across Canada to migrate to Calgary to make a living and eventually create a life and home here. That being said it’s also very difficult to create new friends and friendship moving to a city that you don’t know anyone or only know a few people. Once you start into the workforce it is difficult meeting friends. Many people you meet through work have different interests or have families that make it difficult for them to partake in extra curricular activities through work or part of other clubs throughout the city. I know there is lots of activity based groups in Calgary that use the Rocky Mountains as their back drop to many different events and why not? With Canmore and Banff less then an hour drive away it makes it very accessible. The summer months were the city and area see’s so much daylight as the sun doesn’t go down till 10:30pm it makes an after work trip to the mountains easy for a bike ride, hike, rock climb or just a relaxing walk and perhaps hot springs evening. Summer activities in the Rockies most definitely include camping, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing and some of the greatest hiking in the world.

Calgary certainly gets its fair share of weather extremes but for the most part is easily livable and allows people to enjoy year round events. Most Calgarians you will find have embraced winter and hit the slopes to either go skiing or snowboarding. There are lots of great cross country trails in and around the city and in the mountains. Other winter activities include skating, snowshoeing, ice fishing, sleigh rides, ice climbing and watching their beloved Flames play hockey. However a few weeks of the year in winter can be unbearable. Luckily Calgary see’s and experiences Chinook winds which can warm the temperature up to 20 degrees during the winter months. These winds also last for several days.

Calgary is also a very dog friendly city with over 150 off leash dog parks. This is also another great way to get outdoors and be active. We plan on partnering with local companies and activity based groups to help promote long lasting friendships that you can take part in and meet amazing people! Will be adding new content and telling our members about new activities and things they’ll be able to take part in throughout the year. Stay tuned.
