Friendships
Creating Long Lasting Friendships Through Adventure Travel
“Life is about the people you meet and the moments you create with them”
There is no doubting the fact that strong friendships are a huge contributor to overall happiness. Humans and other mammals alike really do require strong social networks to enjoy their lives, it’s something that we all have in common. It’s important to feel like you belong, you have friends that you can confide in and can reciprocate that too. There are many studies that show that having more than 5 friends leads to a happier, healthier life.
Join a group. Being part of a natural group, where you have common interests and are brought together automatically, is the easiest way to make friends: starting a new job, taking a cooking course, joining a yoga studio, playing a team sport, joining a local activity based group, taking a class at the gym, or volunteering are great opportunities to join a group. An added advantage to making friends through a group is that you can strengthen your friendships to several people at once — very helpful if you don’t have a lot of free time.
As we get older it becomes more and more difficult to develop true healthy friendships like the ones we had back in grade or high school. Once you enter the workforce you meet so many individuals through work but don’t necessarily make those connections you did before. You are put into a work environment that doesn’t breed friendships. So many different personalities, backgrounds, goals and company culture dictates how you should act preventing people from truly showing who they are. Work friends are much different than friends you grew up with. Unfortunately because of how the corporate world works nowadays many people are always trying to get ahead so you can’t share the same stories or information that could hurt your chances at getting a promotion or another position within the organization.
Most of our childhood or university friends nowadays have met someone and are married or now have kids. So if you’re not meeting friends at work where do you meet new friends especially if you’re new to a city. Most students that finish university or college move to the larger urban metropolitan cities because that is where they’ll find work.
Many of us love playing sports or doing activities so many of us join sport and social leagues or activity clubs. I’ve found that you can meet great individuals but really is hit or miss. Many couples join that have kids that aren’t able to go out afterwards for the social aspect of being in these clubs or activities and for many that is the big draw is to meet like-minded individuals that you can do other things with.
This is where travel comes in. A recent survey shows that around eighty percent of flights and travel booked are single bookings. There is an increase in people wanting to travel and meet people. There is no better way to meet new friends then through travel.
