Can You Travel If You're A Working Professional

Living in North America and working in the corporate world doesn’t leave you much time to go traveling. Traveling requires freedom something most of us don’t have when working in a corporate gig. Traveling also requires money and for most that’s also difficult to find when we have so many debts ie. student loans, car loans or mortgages. Most people don’t even take their two weeks vacation because they’re too busy to take time away.

Taking time to go on vacation could also mean making a sacrifice career wise. In order for you to move up the corporate ladder it involves sacrifice and putting in your time meaning putting your career first. For some vacations are mandatory in order for them to keep their sanity. Making travel a priority is something you need establish with yourself and your workplace.

As a working professional do you prefer to take a trip down south to a resort and relax on a beach? Are you someone that’s looking for an adventure and something more authentic and off the beaten path? How do you want to travel? Do you need to stay in luxury or 4 star hotels, or are you okay with hostels? Do you lust for expensive and extravagant dinners or does eating what the locals eat excite you? What type of activities do you like to do? Are you adventurous? Does bungee jumping, skydiving, kayaking or kitesurfing get your adrenaline pumping? Does riding a camel or an elephant in a jungle or desert seem adventurous? Hiking is also a great way to see the country you’re visiting so you might want to include that. How do you plan on getting around the country you visit. There are so many questions you need to consider before going on vacation. Do you even have time to plan and adventure travel vacation when your so busy working? Is there someone that can plan this for you? Is going on a group tour something you might want to consider?

The other question I’m going to ask you is what you are waiting for? Most people will say, “I want to travel, but….” Is your reason for not traveling actually legit, and are you really working to overcome it? Many people tell me they don’t have money to travel. I don’t buy that. Travel does not have to be expensive, although it’s certainly portrayed that way. Fear is also another common factor. “I don’t know anyone else who is going there, and I could never go alone…” Solo travel does not always mean traveling alone, and once you’ve traveled by yourself you’ll realize how easy it is to meet new people and friends. Identify if your reason for putting off travel is an excuse because work is more important, reasonable because travel is not a priority… or even, perhaps, that traveling is scary because it puts you out of your comfort zone?

In the end there are options out there for working professionals to take vacations, take amazing adventure treks with relaxing lazy days in the sun. Again it all comes down to where you place traveling in your priority list. If its your first priority you can do lots of traveling. If it’s not then it does become difficult for you to escape and travel.
